What is the long term timeline (i really want my own gui)

If you looked, there already are executables in the series. The kernel is an example of one of them. Note that Visual Studio only outputs PE programs. As for having your own GUI, I tell you this: It will take years of dedication to get a useable GUI. Good luck. I hope you succeed, but it will take a while.
