Re: virtual memory
Hi, pathos , A bit of calculating tells me that 0x1000 is 4KB in memory. Now, I'm not quite sure about this, but, can we freely access the memory below where the kernel is mapped? (1 MB) If we can't, it immediately explains why the DMA doesn't work. In that case we need to remap the DMA buffer to s...

Re: virtual memory
Hi, I'm encountering the same problem with the VFS demo as pathos . Through some testing, I found out that it seems to hang when executing flpydsk_read_sector (0); to get the FAT data. my guess is that the DMA code is not (entirely) compatible with the VMM FYI, I'm using VirtualPC 2007, though I'm ...

Re: virtual memory
Thanks! Before I can get started on my kernel heap, I'm now having an issue with the file system. I made the changes this thread suggested (moving virtual memory init below physical, changed the init procedure, changing 3GB to 1MB, etc), but now my OS is triple faulting in the procedure below: void ...

Re: virtual memory
Sorry to necro this a bit, but I have a question for xixpsychoxix. First, did you fix your problem? Second, I noticed you were setting up your kernel heap. I've been working on mine but it's not coming along great. Could you post your kheap.cpp? I understand if you won't, but I figure there's no har...

Re: Keyboard I/O programming question
Andyhhp will know better than me, but I think the keyboard status register thinks it's busy, and you have to clear it. But I could be completely wrong.

Re: Windows 7 x64
Ok, i'm in luck now! The ImDisk Virtual Disk program works great for 7x64. I also used BFI - Build Floppy Image to make a floppy image. The key is to set bochs to read off the disk image not the A: drive itself. Although normal files seam to copy to the A: drive the bootsector doesn't. Maybe it's j...

Re: Chapter 22: File Systems and the VFS
Mike, I may have found a bug. I could have created it myself while messing around, but since I'm not able to compile the demo, I can't test your code. I'm getting an infinite loop if I try to read a nonexistent text file from a folder. For example, I have A:\folder\b.txt. If I type read, then \folde...

No need to apologize -- I know you're busy! Thanks for the hard work!Mike wrote:Hello,
I apologize for the delay. The demo will be released tomorrow or the following day depending on schedule. Along with this, our scan code set reference and new multiboot chapter has also been released.

Re: MS Virtual PC
Is there a solution to use MS Virtual PC instead of Bochs for reading and writing data with the FDC of Demo 15 in chapter 20? Currently, it does not work. I think this was already mentioned in a thread, but I did not find it. :? The problem I had was with both Bochs and Virtual PC, and it was with ...

That's kinda what I was thinking of doing, I just haven't had the chance to work on it.
